ARCHITECTURE
The discipline of architecture, which can also be defined as the art of designing and producing buildings and the physical environment, or simply as the art of building, points to a concept that blends science, technology and art together and is directly involved in daily life. While architecture, which we encounter in every period of history, was perhaps first thought to produce simple shelters to protect people from natural factors and dangers, it later emerges as an important tool in organizing people's place in society, social, cultural and economic relations. Architecture, which we are constantly intertwined with in our daily lives, affects all our lives directly or indirectly by shaping our physical environment in the most appropriate way for our needs.
Architectural education, which teaches the discipline and profession of architecture, aims not only to produce new buildings and the physical environment, but also to gain the ability to understand, evaluate and explain how existing buildings should be read, how architecture's own language is constructed between the past and the future, how and why the elements and materials that make up the building have changed both culturally and technologically, and how buildings can be friendly and peaceful with nature. Therefore, an architect trained in the discipline of architecture is expected to have the knowledge and ability to assimilate not only the production of a single building but also the building-environment, building-human and building-nature relations.
Design workshops are the place that creates, matures and tries to transfer the science and art of building production in every aspect within architectural education. For this reason, the foundations of the profession of architecture are laid in these workshops. Each professional candidate aims to improve himself/herself by discussing the methods and forms of building production in workshops where the architectural design process is shaped both individually and in groups. The knowledge and tools that the candidates who experience the building production process in the design workshops are reinforced with other auxiliary courses and serve the process of creating the identity of the architect within the discipline of architecture.
The fact that there is no single way and method for the production of a building in the field of architecture and that many alternatives can be produced is due to both the richness of the profession itself and the different perspectives and design approaches of each architect involved in the building production process. In addition to universal acceptances, the fact that there is no single answer to every problem in architecture is directly related to the fact that each architect has his own designing ability and perspective.
Especially in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the prominence of approaches to protect the natural environment while producing the physical environment has directly affected the architectural profession, and concepts such as conservation-use balance and sustainability have become extremely important for architecture. In the 21st century, while the prediction that urban populations will increase much more than rural populations and that people will start to live more in urban areas is discussed quite strongly, the field of architecture is trying to develop its own language and adapt to this transformation within the changing and transforming urban life predictions.
Since architecture is constantly in the center of society and at the center of discussions, it cannot be considered separately from many contexts such as social and technological developments, economic activities, environmental problems, human-environment-culture relations. Therefore, the change and transformation experienced by each context also affects and transforms the field of architecture. The 21st century, just like the previous centuries, will be one of the periods in which the discipline of architecture will be discussed the most in the society, will be given importance and its star will shine.
STUDY TOPICS
The discipline of architecture has a very wide field of study as it has processes carried out by establishing direct relations within the society. At the scale of a single building, housing and residential areas, mass housing, housing estates, social and cultural facilities (cinemas, theaters, concerts, etc.), health structures (hospitals, health centers, clinics, etc.), transportation/transportation structures (bridges, viaducts, airports, subway and train stations, ports, etc.), educational structures (schools, universities, libraries, etc.), production facilities (factories, workshops, etc.), tourism structures (hotels, hostels, accommodation facilities, etc.), commercial structures (stores, shops, markets, shopping malls, etc.), office structures, technology structures (R&D buildings, laboratories, etc.), press and broadcasting structures (press and media structures, R&D buildings, laboratories, etc.), and so on. ), office buildings, technology buildings (R&D buildings, laboratories, etc.), press and media buildings (newspaper, TV buildings, etc.), communication buildings (transmitter towers-stations, etc.), food and beverage venues (restaurants, cafes, buffets, etc.), recreation areas (parks, etc.), sports buildings (stadiums, sports halls, etc.), religious buildings (mosques, etc.). ), religious buildings (mosques, etc.), and many other types of buildings and structures, such as design, construction, survey and restoration, post-occupancy evaluation, etc., can be carried out in project and construction site teams as well as consultancy duties.
WORKING AREAS
Architects, who can work in many institutions and organizations in the public (such as the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization, Special Provincial Administration, Municipalities, Universities) and private (such as architectural offices, construction companies, building inspection companies) sectors, can also assume important duties in both national (such as TMMOB Chamber of Architects) and international professional chambers and non-governmental organizations.
TITLE EARNED BY GRADUATES
Those who complete the architecture education and training program gain the title of "Architect".
EDUCATION AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES
Founded in 2012, the Department of Architecture within the Faculty of Architecture and Design aims to start education and training activities when it completes its academic staff.
